Zivnostensky Urad
The Urad is the seat of the local government where you live in the Czech Republic.
The zivnostensky odbor (Odbor means section) is the section or division of the Urad where you where you deal with issues relating to your zivnostensky list.
Since the people who work in the zivnostensky urad speak little or no English, visiting the zivnostensky urad can be daunting. But, times have changed and the urad staff can be very helpful these days. That said there are a couple of things you should know.
The first and most important is that each urad interprets the laws (The Trade Act) differently. This is not just an opinion, it is a known fact. Also, the staff in each office. have the ability to read the law in their own way.
As an example, some offices will require a criminal record check from your home country, while another urad will accept an affidavit form your embassy as enough proof of no criminal record.
Another thing to know about the urads, believe it or not, are there to help you. But, you should only inquire about subjects or information that affect you directly. The urad staff are reluctant to give out information for “third parties'.
If you go ask questions for yourself, you should on average, find the staff helpful, even if you have minimal Czech language skills. But, if you ask questions "for a friend" you are likely to get no answers, at best. The staff will tell you to "look up the law yourself". So, if you plan on enlisting the help of one of your Czech friends, be sure to go to the urad with them. Because, if you don't they will come away with minimum information
Also the staff in the urad speak little or no English. You will not get far if you speak no Czech.
You will find that if you speak some Czech, you should find the urad staff helpful. It may even be possible to say that a lot of the urad staff are friendly and helpful and if you speak Czech with them, they may just try to speak English (or German) with you.
